Categories 2011
A festival participation is possible in following categories:
Category A: symphonic band, fanfare, brass band, big band

Following programme conditions have to be considered:

  • A varied programme with a minimum of 18 and a maximum of 20 minutes
  • 1 national piece of after 1970 (composed by a composer from your own country of origin)
  • 1 piece from elsewhere (composed by a, for the ensemble, foreign composer)
  • 1 original piece, from the traditional repertoire, suited for the ensemble (not arranged)
  • As large a diversity as possible
  • Concertos or similar works with soloists are not allowed


Pennant category A: symphonic band, fanfare, brass band, big band Conditions:

For a participation in the pennant category, following conditions have to be considered:
  • or have obtained a level comparable to WMC division II
  • or gained minimum a 1st prize cum laude during a previous festival edition
  • or gained a remarkable result during other international festivals and/or competitions
  • or can show a thorough artistic experience
  • DVD recording is obliged
Following programme conditions have to be considered:
  • A varied programme with a minimum of 22 and a maximum of 25 minutes
  • 1 national piece of after 1970 (composed by a composer from your own country of origin)
  • 1 piece from elsewhere (composed by a, for the ensemble, foreign composer)
  • 1 original piece, from the traditional repertoire, suited for the ensemble (not arranged)
  • As large a diversity as possible
  • Concertos or similar works with soloists are not allowed

Category B: jazz ensembles (*)

Following programme conditions have to be considered:

  • A varied programme with a minimum of 18 and a maximum of 20 minutes
  • 1 “standard” from between 1930 and 1960
  • 1 national piece (composed by a composer from your own country of origin)
  • Periodic diversity with minimum 1 piece from after 1980
  • Stylistic diversity (blues, ballad, medium, up-tempo) with at least one own composition
  • In group, a soloist improvisation is possible

Pennant category B: jazz ensembles (*)

 

For a participation in the pennant category, following conditions have to be considered:

  • or gained minimum a 1st prize cum laude during a previous festival edition
  • or gained a remarkable result during other international festivals and/or competitions
  • or can show a thorough artistic experience
  • DVD recording is obliged

  • A varied programme with a minimum of 22 and a maximum of 25 minutes

The occupation can be instrumental or can vary from 1 to maximum 4 vocalists (song repertoire), instrumental accompanied (the instrument has to be accompanying)

Following programme conditions have to be considered:

  • A varied programme with a minimum of 18 and a maximum of 20 minutes
  • concertos or similar works with soloists are not allowed
  • 1 national piece (composed by a composer from your own country of origin)
  • 1 piece from elsewhere, sung in the original language (composed by a, for the ensemble, foreign composer)
  • maximum 1 arranged piece from the traditional repertoire
  • stylistic diversity
  • periodical diversity with at least 1 piece dated after 1970 - 1980

Pennant category D: ensembles with traditional instrumental and vocal chamber music Conditions:
The occupation can be instrumentalor can vary from 1 to maximum 4 vocalists (song repertoire), instrumental accompanied (the instrument has to be accompanying)

  • 1 national piece is advisable (composed by a composer from your own country of origin)
  • A periodical diversity

Pennant category F: ensembles with free instrumentation (= ensembles with several instruments from all possible instrument groups) and folk music (*)

 

For a participation in the pennant category, following conditions have to be considered:

  • or gained minimum a 1st prize cum laude during a previous festival edition
  • or gained a remarkable result during other international festivals and/or competitions
  • or can show a thorough artistic experience
  • DVD recording is obliged

Remarks :
  • Four kettledrums and one piano are at your disposal if you indicate so on your application form.

  • All ensembles bring along all other instruments and the musicians’ desks.

  • Ensembles participating in the categories jazz and percussion (*) can, if wanted, use at the concert location the standard occupation of percussion instruments, provided by the Festival. Ensembles who wish to use the complete percussion-instrumentation have to reckon with a rental price on a flat rate basis.
