Balkan Challenge (only for choirs)
During this online festival, choirs will not be obligated to perform an extra song. Choirs that are looking for a challenge have the possibility to study a song and enter in the Balkan Challenge. This song has been written as part of the European WeBEUnited project and is planned to be performed in multiple European countries.
In the WeBEUnited project, the EMJ, in cooporation witjh 3 other European partners, will work with compoers from the West-Balkan to exchange choir music. It is our aim to have Belgian choir compositions, written by assignment for the EMJ, performed in multiple countries in the West)-Balkan. Simultaneously, West-Balkan choir music, written especially for this project, will be performed during the EMJ. This way the EMJ want to promote the cutlural exchange between these regions and introduce young European musicians to music from a, for them ofton unknown, culture.
The copmositions created for this project are:
Me nji Lule (SATB): composed by Memli Kelmendi (Kosovo)
Hapi krahët (SATB), composed by Alban Dhamo (Albania)
Gorskog vijenca (SSA), composed by Marko Kovac (Montenegro)
The maximum age of the participants is set at the age of 28 years. This means they have not reached the age of 29 at the start of the Festival.
For exceptions on the age, we refer to the extended regulations document.
A renowned international jury evaluates from a constructive angle all participants' performances. The jury will focus on tips, recommandations... to inspire groups for future performances. Afterwards, the conductors will have the opportunity to consult the jury throught an online "wallking dinner". A few weeks after the Festival a jury report will be sent emphasising a positive and noncompetitive assessment.
The jury report - being a summary report - will be mailed to all participating groups a few weeks after the Festival. This report gives tips and recommandations, in a constructive manner, to inspire groups for future performances.
A deviance of the regulations is only allowed after approval by the festival organization. In case of a doubt, the decision of the organizing committee is decisive.
